Our next big milestone: Zoning Board of Appeals approval! Our special permit has been approved and we’re underway with serious demo. As part of Green Phoenix’s mission to be a good environmental steward, we’re working hard to reuse and recycle as much of the old house as we can, rather than send it to a landfill. Our partner in this is greenGoat, an environmental conservation group out of Somerville that specializes in finding new homes for old house components. As you can see from the photo, they’ve taken our windows and much of our cladding (and, though not visible, one of the chimneys – the bricks can be cleaned up and reused). greenGoat has also taken most of the interior elements: cabinets, appliances, bathroom fixtures, radiators, old moldings, the boiler and water heater, and even some carpeting. Anything which can find a new home is being donated instead of going to trash.
