Built-in Resilience

We had another opportunity to do an interesting test of the home’s performance during a cold spell in mid-winter.  We shut off the heating and ventilation systems for four days during a time when the temperatures ranged between 17 °F and 43 °F and let the home’s temperatures drift.

From a starting point of about 74 °F the house gradually cooled down to the high 50s throughout most of the rooms. We measured the temperatures at 10 locations around the home using both the permanently installed air quality monitors from Powerwise Systems, and some temporary data recorders.

This is pretty good evidence that we were successful in designing and building a resilient home!
